Windell Brown scored on a 4-yard run with 4:54 left to play as California edged Edinboro, 35-31, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division showdown at Sox Harrison Stadium in Edinboro.
Edinboro (3-1, 0-1) came into the contest ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division II, while California (3-1, 1-0) was ranked No. 14.
The Fighting Scots took a 31-28 lead with 5:59 remaining on a 27-yard run by quarterback Trevor Harris, who carried 14 times for 91 yards and passed for another 208.
The Vulcans jumped out to a 21-3 lead in the first half, but Harris tossed touchdown passes of 12 and 34 yards to Rich Cerro in the second quarter to get Edinboro back in the game.
Daine Williams paced the California offense with 140 yards rushing on 17 carries. Quarterback Kevin McCabe completed 18 of 31 passes for 274 yards and two scores.
Houston Brown rushed for 118 yards on 23 carries for Edinboro.

Slippery Rock 24, Gannon 16: Robert Doiley ran 45 yards for a touchdown with a blocked punt in the fourth quarter as the Rock (3-1, 1-0 PSAC West) won at home. Ryan Lehmeier scored on runs of 2 and 3 yards for Slippery Rock.
Mercyhurst 41, Clarion 7: Garrett Kensy threw touchdown passes to three receivers and Charlie Gallop recovered a fumble in the end zone for Mercyhurst (2-2, 1-0 PSAC West). The Lakers held Clarion (1-3, 0-1) to 25 yards rushing.
Seton Hill 34, Glenville State 29: David Wess threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Antwarn Stewart with 3:09 remaining to lift the visiting Griffins (4-0, 1-0) against Glenville State (2-2, 1-1) in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Wess passed for 267 yards and two touchdowns.
Hobart 21, Carnegie Mellon 16: Rich Doyle completed 14 of 26 passes for 219 yards and three scores as Hobart (2-0) won at Carnegie Mellon (1-2). Anthony Ruzga rushed for 100 yards on 23 carries for the Tartans.
Dayton 31, Robert Morris 14: Matt Smyth returned an interception 38 yards for a score as the Flyers (3-0) won at home. Robert Morris (1-2) receiver James O'Quinn has six catches for 137 yards and a score.
Westminster 31, Saint Vincent 24: The host Titans (2-1) scored 31 unanswered points after the Bearcats (1-2) took a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Westminster's Nick McKolosky rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns.
Washington & Jefferson 34, Thiel 24: Bobby Swallow passed for 258 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting Presidents (3-0, 1-0), ranked 16th in Division III, defeated the Tomcats (0-3, 0-1) for their 21st consecutive PAC win.
