Monte Ashby

East Allegheny

The past week: A senior running back, Ashby had 321 yards on 28 carries, an 85-yard rushing touchdown and a 98-yard interception return for a score in a 27-14 win against McGuffey.

Check this out: He has no Division I scholarship offers, but said he has been hearing from Pitt, Delaware, Temple and Akron.

What don't you like about recruiting? I think I should have a Division I offer. Other than that, I've had no problems.

If you had the perfect game, how many yards could you gain? I'm just saying, if the coaches keep me in the whole game against Brownsville this year, I can gain 500 yards. For real.

Would you rather run past someone or run them over? I'd rather make them miss, because I think it is more embarrassing to them.

The best football player you have ever played against is ...? Easy, I'd say Terrelle Pryor. His speed was what made him so good. You can't get better than him as a high school player.

You are a former student at Duquesne High School. Which school do you like better? I'd say probably Duquesne, because I have been around there the majority of my life. But, things have been better here every day, and now it is my senior year and I am just trying to have fun.

Ali Forbrich

Peters Township

The past week: Threes have been wild recently for Forbrich, a 5-foot-3 senior forward on the girls' soccer team. She had three goals in three consecutive WPIAL games against Keystone Oaks, Bethel Park and McKeesport.

Check this out: Forbrich has helped turn Peters Township into one of the top teams in Class AAA of the WPIAL. A four-year starter, she has 12 goals this season and 87 for her career. She has a 4.35 grade point average and wants to major in chemical engineering in college.

Is this team good enough to win the WPIAL? I certainly think so. Our coach has given us a really strong schedule so far, and that's going to help us in the long run. Our first five or six games were against top teams. Right now, we're battling some injuries, but, once we get everyone healthy, we should be in real good shape.

What is the best position to play on a soccer team? I'm a forward, so I'll say forward.

Is there much dirty play in girls' soccer? It gets a little chippy sometimes, but not too bad. When good, quality teams play, it's not bad. When the game gets unbalanced is usually when things can happen.

What's your favorite sport besides soccer? Hockey. I'm a big Penguins fan.

Do high school kids read the newspaper at all? I read the Post-Gazette sports section, mostly during Penguins season. But I really don't think high school kids have time to read the paper in the morning. I usually read it after school.

Ultimate date for homecoming dance? Jordan Staal [of the Penguins].

Something that bothers you about high school guys? I don't want to offend anybody, but sometimes just their maturity level in general.
