Schedule heavy on tournament teams
Friday, September 12, 2008

Duquesne's first appearance on ESPN since 1995 and 13 teams that participated in postseason tournaments last season highlight the men's 2008-09 basketball schedule.

Duquesne's game Nov. 28 at Duke will be on ESPN, providing the first exposure for the Dukes since a Feb 18, 1995, game against UAB. The Dukes also expect to have a couple games on the Atlantic 10 television network carried by CBS Sports that will be announced at a later date.

Duquesne will face six teams that played in the NCAA tournament last season -- Pitt (Dec. 3 at the Petersen Events Center), Duke, West Virginia (Dec. 13 at the Palumbo Center), Saint Joseph's, Temple and Xavier. Robert Morris (Dec. 28 at RMU), Charlotte, Dayton, Massachusetts and Rhode Island were in the National Invitation Tournament and Old Dominion and Richmond played in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational.

Duquesne will play A-10 opponents Dayton, Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure twice and the other 10 A-10 teams once.

The Dukes, who return two starters from a 17-13 team, open Nov. 14 against High Point at the Palumbo Center in the nightcap of a doubleheader, with Duquesne playing Morehead State in a women's game that starts at 6 p.m.

High Point and North Carolina Central are the only first-time opponents on Duquesne's schedule.

The Duquesne women play six teams that were in the NCAA tournament last season -- A-10 opponents Temple, Xavier and George Washington and non-league foes Pitt, West Virginia and Robert Morris.
