Serviceable percentage after two weeks
Friday, September 12, 2008

The Fumbler is a wreck; his fantasy football team is in shambles.

Last week, New England quarterback Tom Brady went down in a heap, and so did The Fumbler's chances of winning his fantasy league, as The Fumbler had Mr. Brady as his starting quarterback.

This wouldn't be a big deal if The Fumbler could plug in a serviceable backup, but in his haste during his fantasy draft, he selected Anthony Morelli as his second quarterback -- Morelli ended up not making an NFL roster. The Fumbler, though, would make any roster of the sharpest guys in the area, discounting another mediocre performance last week, going 46-18 (.719 percentage) in his picks. For the season, he is 88-40 (.688).

Here are his thoughts on this weekend's top games:

North Hills (2-0) at Bethel Park (2-0), 7:30 p.m. today -- Who will retire first, Joe Paterno or North Hills coach Jack McCurry? Never mind. McCurry's defense has been good (6 points in two games), but his offense must improve if the Indians are going to win this Class AAAA non-conference matchup. Bethel Park's offense, meanwhile, is looking strong. Winner: Bethel Park.

North Allegheny (1-1) at Upper St. Clair (2-0), 7:30 p.m. today -- How many teams can say they have gone to Upper St. Clair two years in a row and defeated a Jim Render-coached team? North Allegheny can say it after this AAAA non-conference clash. Winner: North Allegheny.

Chartiers Valley (1-1) at Belle Vernon (2-0), 7:30 p.m. today -- Belle Vernon is unbeaten, but the competition has been weak. This Class AAA Big Seven Conference opener should tell more about Belle Vernon. Winner: Chartiers Valley.

Bishop Canevin (1-1) at Seton-LaSalle (2-0), 7:30 p.m. today -- The Fumbler is waiting for a team to emerge from the Class AA Century Conference as the one to beat. It just might be Seton-LaSalle. Winner: Seton-LaSalle.

Carrick (2-0) vs. Perry (1-1), noon tomorrow, Cupples Stadium -- Carrick is no longer a City League doormat. A second consecutive playoff berth is a strong possibility. Winner: Carrick.
