Holding Canon-McMillan to 50 yards total offense, Central Catholic (1-1) earned a 17-13 victory against the Big Macs (1-1) in a non-conference showdown at Carnegie Mellon. Dom Maggio and Kyle Wilson ran for touchdowns for the Vikings and Matt Oczypok kicked a 40-yard field goal. Mike Hull and Steve Roach scored on short runs for Canon-McMillan.
Brashear entered yesterday's matchup against Langley as the Post-Gazette's No. 1-ranked City League team.
Bruce Patterson made sure things remained that way.
Patterson, a junior running back at Brashear, rushed for 120 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 12, 1, 3, and 9 yards to push the Bulls (2-0, 2-0) to a 48-14 victory against Langley (0-2, 0-2) at Cupples Stadium on the South Side.
The game went into the second quarter scoreless. Brashear scored 42 points in the second and third quarters combined to effectively end the Mustangs' chances.
Henri Chapman paced the Brashear passing game, throwing for 154 yards. He completed 9 of 14 passes, including touchdown strikes to Manasseh Garner of 28 and 13 yards.
Sto-Rox 20, Bishop Canevin 12: Paul Jones threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns to lead Sto-Rox (2-0, 2-0) to a victory against Bishop Canevin (1-1, 1-1) at Dormont Stadium in the Class AA Century Conference.
Western Beaver 34, Springdale 26: In overtime, Zack Cavalier scored his second touchdown of the game on a 3-yard run to lift host Western Beaver (1-1) to a non-conference victory against Springdale (0-2). The Dynamos were held scoreless in their overtime possession.
Shady Side Academy 17, Freeport 0: Roman San Doval scored on a 95-yard interception return, Sean Hannon kicked a 23-yard field goal and Brian Nickel scored on a 3-yard run for Shady Side (2-0, 2-0) in a win against visiting Freeport (1-1, 1-1) in the Class AA Allegheny Conference. It was the first game played on Shady Side's new artificial turf.
Bentworth 21, Geibel 7: Derek Damich scored on runs of 6 and 3 yards to propel visiting Bentworth (2-0) past Geibel (1-1) in non-conference play.
Kiski School 6, Valley Forge Military Academy 0: Played in a steady downpour in Wayne, Pa., Chance Green recovered a botched snap on a punt in the end zone with 1:45 remaining, as visiting Kiski School (1-0) slid past Valley Forge (0-1).
Shenango 38, Leechburg 0: Rick Mathews rushed for 164 yards and three scores to lead host Shenango (2-0) to a non-conference win against the Blue Devils (0-2).
