Pennsylvania's ranking among the top apple-producing states

Washington, New York, Michigan are the top three; California is fifth. Red Delicious is the most common variety of apple grown in the U.S. Humans have been eating apples since at least 6,500 B.C. Apples originated in the region between the Caspian and Black Seas. They were first planted in New York by European settlers in the 1600s.
