CAMPUS EVENTS

California -- The annual Conference on Corporate and Homeland Security will be held from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the performance center of Natalie Student Center at California University of Pennsylvania. Speakers include university President Angelo Armenti Jr., Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. John R. Brown and James F. Powers, director of the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security. A $40 fee includes two meals, refreshments and an attendance certificate. Call 412-715-5641.

DINING OUT

Peters -- Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Center Church Road, will serve pancake breakfasts from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. next Sunday in Fellowship Hall. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children 10 or younger. Proceeds benefit the Appalachian Service Project.

FUNDRAISERS

California -- Center in the Woods, 130 Woodland Court, will host an Antique & Appraisal Weekend in the Woods from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Sunday. A $2 admission will be charged for those older than 12. Appraisals will be $8 per item or three items for $20. Workshops will be $5 each. Raffle prizes include an in-home appraisal and a trip to an Atlantic City antique show.

Events include:

• Hidden Treasures Reception at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a presentation by Harry Rinker, of the home and garden television channel, HGTV; appetizers, wine tasting; and silent auction. Cost is $35.

• A waffle breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Cost is $5.

Washington -- The Washington HOG Chapter and the Ladies of Harley will hold a charity ride at 11:30 a.m. Saturday to raise awareness of breast cancer. Departure is from Steel City Harley-Davidson, 1375 Washington Road. Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. and is $20 per rider and $15 per passenger. The event includes door prizes and a silent auction. HOSPITALS

North Strabane -- Canonsburg General Hospital will offer free diabetes education classes for diabetics and their families at 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9-30. To register, call 1-877-284-2000.

LIBRARIES

Peters -- Sky Foerster, president of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh and host of Pittsburgh Global Press Conference on KQV radio, will speak on "Seven Years After: The Shape of our World" at 7 p.m. Thursday at Peters Township Public Library, 616 E. McMurray Road. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Author, speaker, consultant and organizer Patty Kreamer will discuss "So Many Papers ... Not Enough Time!" at 10 a.m. Saturday.

RECREATION

Cross Creek -- Campfire Jam Night will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Shelter 1 at Cross Creek County Park. Musicians who play acoustic instruments are welcome for country and blue grass. RELIGION

Peters -- People with autism and their families may attend a special service of music and movement, prayer and praise at 2 p.m. next Sunday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 105 Gateshead Drive. All ages and backgrounds are welcome. The program is scheduled for the second Sunday of each month. For information, call 724-941-7467.

SALES

California -- A porch sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Gallagher House, 429 Wood St., sponsored by the California Area Historical Society. Proceeds benefit the group's operating fund.

SPECIAL INTEREST

Rostraver -- Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday in the Willow room, 800 Plaza Drive. Adele B. Lynn will be the speaker. She is an author and the founder and owner of an international consulting and training firm. Cost is $18 for members, $20 for others. Call 724-483-3507.

WORKSHOPS
