LeSean McCoy rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns to lead Pitt to a 27-16 win over Buffalo tonight before a crowd of 42,494 at Heinz Field.
Buffalo's Bran Thermilus scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:54 to play in the first quarter but A.J. Principe's extra point attempt was blocked so the Bulls led only 6-0. The Panthers then took a 7-6 lead on their first possession of the second quarter when McCoy scored on a 3-yard touchdown run and Conor Lee kicked the extra point.
Lee pushed the lead to 10-6 a little bit later with a 21-yard field goal.
Principe then closed the scoring for the half with a 35-yard field goal to pull the Bulls to 10-9 but McCoy scored on a 1-yard run to open the third quarter to give Pitt a 17-9 lead. Buffalo responded with a 39-yard pass from Drew Willy to Brett Hamlin and the third quarter ended with Pitt leading 17-16.
McCoy then scored from two yards out with 10:21 to play to push the Panthers lead to 24-16 and Lee added a 42-yard field goal to put the game away.
