Games and story lines to watch this weekend in the WPIAL and City League
Friday, September 05, 2008

Hempfield (1-0) at Shaler (1-0), 7:30 p.m. today, Lou Martig Stadium: The Neil Gordon Era got started with a bang last week at Shaler, with Dan McGinley taking the opening kickoff 86 yards for a TD in a win against Baldwin. Hempfield visits in a huge non-conference showdown.

Bethel Park (1-0) at Penn Hills (1-0), 7:30 p.m. today, Yuhas/McGinley Stadium: Is No. 2 Bethel Park a legitimate threat to make a run toward a WPIAL Class AAAA title? The Black Hawks will find out in this early season test at No. 4 Penn Hills, which is always a tough place to play.

Hopewell (1-0) at Mars (1-0), 7:30 p.m. today, Mars Athletic Complex: This one could be downright defensive. Both teams pitched shutouts last week in their openers, as Hopewell blanked Knoch, 20-0, and Class AAA newcomer Mars went to Moon and stymied the Tigers, 35-0.
