Highlights: Springdale rallies for 3-2 section win
Top-ranked AA team slips past Deer Lakes

The girls' soccer team ranked No. 1 by the Post-Gazette in WPIAL Class AA needed a second-half comeback to win at home last night.

Brittany Loveland had a hat trick -- including the winner with 16:22 left in the game -- to lead Springdale to a 3-2 win against Deer Lakes in the Section 3 opener for both teams.

Kelly Butler and Shelby Parks each scored their third goals of the season for the Lancers (2-1), who led, 2-1, in the second half.

The Dynamos (3-0) were a WPIAL finalist and PIAA semifinalist last season.

More Class AA girls' soccer

Mount Pleasant handed Greensburg Central Catholic its first section loss in four years, 3-2, in overtime. Defender Julie Bearer had two goals, including the winner 2:30 into overtime, for the host Vikings (2-0, 1-0 Section 6), who are ranked No. 5 in Class AA. The Centurions (1-1, 0-1) are ranked ninth.

• Chloe Zomnir scored the winner 10 minutes into the second half to lead No. 8 Sewickley Academy (1-1, 1-0) to a 3-2 win against No. 6 Center (0-1, 0-1) in a Section 2 game the Panthers hosted.

• Alexa DelGreco had a goal and an assist to lead host Seton-LaSalle (2-0, 1-0) to a 3-0 win against Bishop Canevin (1-1, 0-1) in Section 4 action.

Class AAA girls' soccer

• Junior defender Katie Mundy's goal off a corner kick with six seconds left in regulation lifted Class AAA No. 9 Norwin (1-0, 1-0) to a 2-1 win against Franklin Regional (0-2, 0-1) in Section 1 play.

• Sam Santiago scored with 21 minutes to play to lead Ambridge (3-0, 1-0) to 1-0 Section 7 victory against Montour (1-2, 0-1).

• Maria Touloumes scored her second goal of the game three minutes into overtime to lead visiting Bethel Park (2-0, 1-0) to a 3-2 win against Oakland Catholic (1-1, 0-1) in Section 4.

• Freshman Aileen Feeney and junior Tenesha Corrales each had three goals in leading Kiski Area (1-1, 0-1) to a 7-0 Section 3 win against Woodland Hills (0-3, 0-1).

• Taylor Schran, Sarah Zeh and Brianna Sharkady each scored as Canon-McMillan (3-0, 1-0) beat Ringgold, 3-0, in Section 5 play. The host Rams fell to 1-2, 0-1.

Milestones

Saint Joseph earned its first win in the history of the program, 7-1, at Monessen (0-2-1, 0-1) in Class AA Section 6. Meghan Smith had three goals for the Spartans (1-2, 1-0), who are in their first season.

• Kayla Eckman scored six times to give her 101 for her career as Class AA No. 3 Freeport (1-1, 1-0) dominated host Valley (0-2, 0-1) in Section 3 play, 17-0.

Boys' match of the night

• WPIAL Class AAA No. 1 Peters Township needed overtime to beat District 10 Erie McDowell, 2-1. Christian Brandstetter had both goals for the Indians (2-1), including the winner in the 84th minute.

City League boys' showdown

• In a matchup of two of the top three ranked teams in the City League, No. 1 Allderdice beat visiting No. 3 Brashear, 3-2, in overtime. Senior forward Steve Canton had two goals -- including the winner -- for the Dragons (1-1, 1-0). The Bulls fell to 1-1, 0-1 in the City League.

Golf stars

• Jim Davis shot a 1-under 34 at Diamond Run to lead North Allegheny to a Division I Section 3 boys' win against Seneca Valley, 190-200. Mike McNulty shot 35 for the Raiders.

• Brittany Massie's 2-over 37 at Hiland Golf Course led Center to a 166-185 win against Butler.
