WMNY-AM (1360) is all business now. The former talk station WPTT has switched to a mostly syndicated lineup of business and financial programming, with a local daily talk show to launch Sept. 15.
"Pittsburgh Renaissance Radio" (weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m.) will be devoted to local business issues and breaking business stories. Behind the scenes are Ron Morris, a Pittsburgh-based businessman who's director of the Entrepreneurial Studies Program at Duquesne University and host of "The American Entrepreneur," which has been on the air since 1999; John Poister, who will anchor the program's hourly business news reports; and Darryl Grandy, producer for Morris' weekly radio show.
Hosts from a variety of business backgrounds will appear on "Pittsburgh Renaissance Radio," among them Mark DeSantis, Jerry Bowyer, Jake Haulk and Morris, who will continue to host "American Entrepreneur" (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays on WMNY). The program also will include a bi-weekly "business of sports" segment.
"I want to raise the business IQ of this region," says Morris, who believes Pittsburgh businesses need to become more savvy in order to compete in the national and global marketplace. "Either we create new businesses or help the companies that are already here become more efficient."
There will still be some political talk in the new format, Morris says -- "Politics is the petri dish in which business has to grow" -- plus live streams and other features on the show's to-be-launched Web site.
