Westmoreland plane crash victim identified
Tuesday, September 02, 2008

The pilot killed in the crash of a small plane Sunday in Westmoreland County has been identified as John Haber, 78, of Pittsburgh.

His twin-engine Cessna T310R went down in a steep-banked ravine around 9:42 a.m. on private property in Washington Township off Kistler Drive near state Route 66, leaving wreckage strewn in trees. Records show that the plane, a six-seater, was owned by Haber Associates Aviation Co. of Wilmington, Del. It was built in 1980.

Dan Stevens of the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety said yesterday that the plane took off from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, with no known destination. The pilot did not make any distress calls that he was aware of.

Officials at Arnold Palmer Airport in Latrobe told KDKA-TV Mr. Haber flew each week for recreation and was a seasoned pilot.
