The Pirates today acquired catcher Robinson Diaz from the Toronto Blue Jays as the player to be named in the Aug. 21 deal that sent infielder Jose Bautista to the Jays.
He has been assigned to Class AAA Indianapolis and added to a now-full 40-man roster.
Diaz, 24, is a right-handed hitter who batted .285 with four home runs, 11 doubles and 26 RBIs in 57 minor league games, mostly with Class AAA Syracuse. He made one appearance as a designated hitter for the Blue Jays April 23 and went 0 for 4. He was on the disabled list from May 3-July 16 because of a sprained right ankle.
