Saturday, August 23, 2008

Two people were taken to hospitals last night after they were injured when a Port Authority light-rail vehicle hit a bus at the intersection of the South Busway and the T line, Port Authority spokesman David Whipkey said.

An outbound 42C Castle Shannon trolley struck a 46K Knoxville bus that was stopped for a red light at the Palm Garden Bridge, Mr. Whipkey said. The bus operator and a woman passenger sustained neck and back injuries after the crash. Their conditions were not available.

Mr. Whipkey said he was not sure what caused the crash, which occurred at 5:30 p.m. but said it was under investigation.

The accident resulted in about a 15-minute delay on the light-rail line.
