A PBT wedding
Thursday, August 21, 2008
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre principal dancers Kumiko Tsuju and Daisuke Takeuchi were married on July 5 in Sapporo City, Hokkaido, Japan. PBT family members in attendance included artistic director Terrence Orr, ballet mistress Marianna Tcherkassky and company members Kaori Ogasawara, Christopher Rendall-Jackson and Nicholas Coppula. The couple knew each other from childhood in Hokkaido, where they attended separate studios for their training. By chance Takeuchi attended The Royal Ballet School in England, where Tsuji followed two years later. The pair repeated the pattern in joining PBT, where they quickly rose to the top and only there developed a partnership both on and off stage. A wedding between principal dancers is a rarity for PBT, although the roster includes several married couples, and for the ballet world at large.
