Pirates sign 20th-round draft pick
Friday, August 15, 2008

The Pirates this afternoon signed their 20th-round draft pick, right-handed pitcher Quinton Miller, to a bonus believed to be well above slot, according to a source outside the team.

Miller, 18, was ranked the No. 1 prospect in New Jersey by Baseball America after going 6-3 with a 2.13 ERA in 21 appearances for Shawnee High School. Among all prospects, he was ranked No. 158. He had signed a letter of intent to play for the University of North Carolina.

That makes 31 signings out of 50 picks, including 15 of the top 21.
