PHILADELPHIA -- Tom Gorzelanny, sent to Class AAA Indianapolis July 5, is scheduled to make his sixth start for the Indians today in Rochester.

INDIANAPOLIS (55-66) lost at Rochester, 6-5. RHP Jimmy Barthmaier (2-2, 3.63) allowed two runs and four hits in five innings. He struck out six, walked three. RHP John Van Benschoten (3.99) pitched two perfect innings of relief. He threw 11 of 18 pitches for strikes. LF Nyjer Morgan (.288) went 2 for 3 with a walk and two steals. C Ronny Paulino (.383) went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. CF Andrew McCutchen (.277) went 0 for 3 with a walk and a sacrfice. 3B Neil Walker (.231) went 1 for 5.

HICKORY (45-73) lost at West Virginia, 17-1. RHP Rafael De Los Santos (2-9, 5.73) allowed five runs and two hits in one-third of an inning.
STATE COLLEGE (11-37) lost at Aberdeen, 3-2. RHP Brian Leach (1-0, 3.62) allowed one run and three hits in four innings. 2B Andy Vasquez (.264) went 3 for 4 with a double.
BRADENTON (26-15) was off.
Even if the left-hander pitches well again, he won't necessarily rejoin the Pirates soon. There are indications right-hander Ross Ohlendorf, acquired from the New York Yankees July 26, will join the Pirates' rotation before Gorzelanny.
Not that Gorzelanny is pitching poorly for Indianapolis. Far from it. In five starts since being sent down July 5, Gorzelanny has allowed 22 hits, 3 walks and 5 earned runs in 221/3 innings.
In his past three starts, he has been even more effective -- no walks and two earned runs yielded in 161/3 innings. It's not just about statistics in Gorzelanny's case.
"We're looking at his efficiency, the number of pitches per inning, his velocity," Pirates manager John Russell said. "Things are going pretty well for him, and I think that's where we'll leave it. He's making a lot of progress, but we don't want to get ahead of ourselves."
"His performance is on the rise," Indianapolis manager Trent Jewett said. "He's progressing daily in a lot of ways, and he needs to continue to make progress. He's handled this well and learned a lot about himself."
Shortstop Jack Wilson was out of the starting lineup last night because of tendinitis in his right shoulder.
He was available to pinch-hit, as he did Friday night, but he can't throw properly. It appears the earliest Wilson will start again will be tomorrow in the makeup matinee in New York.
Adam LaRoche, on the disabled list with an intercostals strain, wants to play Tuesday when he is eligible to come off the disabled list. "And that's what you want," Russell said.
However, even though LaRoche continues to feel great and took live batting practice last night, the Pirates want to be careful with their first baseman because of the nature of his injury.
"You can't simulate game-speed swings or game-speed check swings," Russell said.
That's why it's probable LaRoche will play in one or two minor league rehabilitation games beginning tomorrow.
Craig Hansen considers himself capable of inducing a double play ball from a batter.
"Grounders, yes," he said. "Like that? No."
"Like that" was the line drive Chase Utley hit off the right-hander in the 12th inning Friday night that left fielder Brandon Moss turned into a game-inning double play with a spectacular diving catch and relay throw.
"I guess there's no better way to end the game than that with him basically saving the game," Hansen said. "I was just amazed."
Nyjer Morgan homered for Indianapolis Friday night -- his first home run since Sept. 25, 2007 when he hit one for the Pirates against Arizona.
Indianapolis reliever Evan Meek through Friday night had allowed only three earned runs in 282/3 innings in a 14-game appearance stretch.
Lanny Frattare, who broadcast his first Pirates game April 10, 1976, in Philadelphia, today will broadcast his 5,000th Pirates game.
Jason Davis today will become the 12th different pitcher to start a game for the Pirates this season. That's the most since they also used 12 in 2003.
