A slim majority of Pennsylvanians like the job Ed Rendell is doing as governor, but most disapprove of his handling of the budget and of his proposal to give a Spanish company control of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, a poll shows.
The latest Quinnipiac University poll of voters across the state, released yesterday morning, said 54 percent approve of the job Mr. Rendell is doing. Only 40 percent, though, said he is doing a good job handling the budget. Just 29 percent favor his plan for the turnpike.
The Legislature, amid the Bonusgate investigation that has resulted in charges against 12 current and former lawmakers and staffers, got approval from only a third of the voters, the poll shows.
"Even though all those indicted in Bonusgate were Democrats, three-quarters say both parties are responsible for corruption in the state Legislature," said Clay F. Richards, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
"Three-quarters say the Legislature probably doesn't have the ability to pass the laws needed to fix itself, but they want the governor to call a special session to tackle corruption in the Capitol."
