A 4-year-old girl and the 19-year-old woman who was driving were the only survivors of a car crash Monday night in Forest Hills that killed three people and is under investigation by Allegheny County police.
Police did not release the name of the driver, who is from Altoona, or the girl, who was in Children's Hospital yesterday with a broken leg and shoulder and arm injuries.
The child is expected to survive, county police Assistant Superintendent James Morton said.
Police had no information about which hospital the driver was taken to or her condition.
The girl's mother, Jennifer Smith, 26, of Johnstown, was killed along with Samuel McCoy, 27, of Altoona, and Matthew J. Stojakovich, 25, of North Huntingdon.
Police could not say what the parties' relationship was to one another, where the group was coming from or where they were going.
Authorities said the crash happened around 9:21 p.m. in the 1700 block of Ardmore Boulevard when the car left the road and crashed into a utility pole.
"We don't know why she lost control," Superintendent Morton said.
He added that investigators are looking into whether speed was a factor. Blood was drawn from the driver to test for alcohol or other substances, but results were not available.
