When violence invaded worship spaces

Violent incidents at places of worship in recent years:

July 27, 2008 -- Jim David Adkisson is accused of fatally shooting two adults and wounding seven others during a children's pageant at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville.

May 25, 2008 -- A man opens fire at a church fund-raiser in Newark, Del., killing one of those in attendance. The shooter and a female relative of the victim were injured when the relative tried to subdue the suspect.

Jan. 23, 2008 -- Rhonda Smith is found shot to death inside Trinity Lutheran Church, Springfield, Bucks County. Three months later fellow church member Mary Jane Fonder, who police say was jealous of Ms. Smith's closeness to the church's pastor, is arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Dec. 9, 2007 -- Matthew Murray kills five people including himself in a shooting rampage at a missionary training center in a Denver suburb and the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Aug. 12, 2007 -- Eiken Elam Saimon kills a pastor and two others at a Micronesian church in Missouri.

May 20, 2007 -- A suspect in the shooting of three people at First Presbyterian Church in Moscow, Idaho, holds police at bay and the incident ends with three more dead, including a police officer.

Feb. 26, 2006 -- Kevin Lorenzo Collins kills two people at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit while looking for his girlfriend, then later kills himself.

May 21, 2006 -- Anthony Bell kills four of his in-laws during a church service at the Ministry of Jesus Christ in Baton Rouge, La. He abducts his wife and kills her.

Aug. 29 , 2005 -- Freddie L. Cranshaw kills two men, including the pastor of Sash Assembly of God Church in Sash, Texas, in the church parking lot. He then kills two women in a truck and returns home, where police find him dead.

March 12, 2005 -- A man kills seven people during services at the Living Church of God near Milwaukee.

Oct. 5, 2003 -- Sheila W. Chaney Wilson shoots her mother, Jennie Mae Robinson, and the Rev. Johnny Clyde Reynolds at Turner Monumental AME Church in Atlanta.
