Profile of the Week

Yvonne Hudson

Job: Billing manager, Credit Management Co., and owner of Great Expectations, a medical billing company.

Age: 49

Favorite stock/mutual fund: I am not an aggressive investor, and my portfolio consists of quite a mix of commodity stocks and midcap mutual funds. With the market so unstable these days I like to play it safe with the money market and ride out the turbulence.

Someday I want to: go up in a hot air balloon. By nature I wouldn't consider myself an extrovert, and this seems so crazy. When I was a little girl growing up in Jamaica, I would climb the trees all the time, and I guess there is still an adventurous side of me.

Interesting/useless facts about me: I am bicultural -- born in Jamaica, comprised of African and eastern Indian decent. Then after my divorce, I moved to New York to be close to my mother who had taken ill. My daughter is attending Pitt and working towards her Ph.D. in Health and Wellness while she is running her own business, Camille's Fitness. So after traveling back and forth from New York to Pittsburgh a number of times, I decided to make this city my home.

Favorite Movie: "Ghost." I am much more of a book reader, but I just love Patrick Swayze! I have seen this movie eight times thus far and counting.

What inspires you? My mother. I always saw her overcome difficulties with a smile, and never saw her depressed, even when she was dying of cancer. There were times when I would ask her if she was depressed, and her answer always was, "I do not know that word." She has become my inspiration to succeed in life and be happy.

Person you'd most like to have dinner with: Oprah. She is an amazing woman to have built such a well-respected empire after growing up so poor, and still maintain a heart-felt compassion for her fellow human beings. I would like to find out what drives her, and of course I would want to hear what advice she can give me to also become so successful!

What do you like about Pittsburgh? I lived in New York City for 15 years, and comparatively it is much more peaceful in Pittsburgh, and the people here are so friendly! For example, when I drive everyone is so courteous -- you never experience that in New York. There also is such a sense of community and pride here that extends from the love of hometown sports teams to being family oriented. You can feel the love for this city just by walking around and seeing the smiles on people's faces. And the city is so clean and taken care of!
