Another 152 school districts get state-funded laptops

Another 152 school districts have been added to the state Classrooms for the Future program, which provides laptops to high schools.

This brings the program, entering its third year, into 543 high schools in 453 of the state's 501 school districts in 2008-09. It is expected to reach about 500,000 students.

The state education budget provides $45 million for laptop computers, high-speed Internet access and state-of-the-art software for high school math, science, English and social studies classrooms as well as professional development.

The newly funded schools include:

• Allegheny County -- Bethel Park, $188,223; Brentwood, $76,390; Carlynton, $110,540; Chartiers Valley, $172,705; Clairton City, $74,691; Keystone Oaks, $164,329; Montour, $177,476; North Hills, $168,758; West Jefferson Hills, $121,141; Woodland Hills, $188,223.

• Armstrong County -- Apollo-Ridge, $83,715; Freeport Area, $85,201; Leechburg, $74,691; Lenape AVTS, $74,691.

• Beaver County -- Ambridge Area, $107,792; Beaver Area, $81,353; Blackhawk, $113,840; New Brighton Area, $110,962; Rochester Area, $76,351.

• Butler County -- Mars Area, $160,957; South Butler County $165,458.

• Fayette County -- Connellsville Area, $188,223; Frazier, $75,926; Uniontown Area, $188,223.

• Greene County -- Central Greene, $136,749; West Greene $74,691.

• Washington County -- Avella Area, $74,691; Bethlehem-Center, $80,545; Chartiers-Houston, $74,691; McGuffey, $107,168; Peters Township, $188,223.

• Westmoreland County -- Belle Vernon Area, $165,458; Burrell, $105,874; Derry Area, $154,406; Greater Latrobe, $50,425; Hempfield Area, $188,223; Jeannette City, $83,377; Kiski Area, $188,223; Ligonier Valley, $149,383; Mount Pleasant Area, $123,540; New Kensington-Arnold, $138,210; Penn-Trafford, $188,223; Yough, $132,621.
