"Swing It Around," featuring originals by Adler and Mike Sweeney, is a lively party record blending Chicago blues and jazzy jump-blues.
"It is always great fun making a record," Adler says. "Unlike the first record, 'Swing it Around' was recorded in stages with various musicians, and the focus was on crafting concise songs as opposed to a lot of instrumental improvisation that occurs on the previous record. Therefore, all parts to all songs were carefully thought out before the recording took place. Egos had to be set aside to serve the song rather than the instrumental soloing. Having said that, there are plenty of great solos throughout the record, but everything exists to support the song."
Adler is backed by a well-oiled ensemble that includes bassists Sweeney and Harry McCorkle, drummer Kenny Crisafio, pianist John "Junkman" Burgh, organist Sudden Steve and saxophonist Eric Spaulding.
Adler, who tops it all off with fluid guitar playing that calls to mind Otis Rush and B.B. King, says some of the songs were inspired by the band playing at Bobby D's Swing City dances.
The CD release show is 9:30 p.m. Friday at Natili's in Butler. Call 724-287-5033.
