Political talk a boon for radio ratings
Wednesday, July 30, 2008

As the presidential election campaigns heated up, news/talk stations dominated the top spots in the spring 2008 Arbitron ratings. Among total listeners, talk station WPGB-FM advanced to third place, compared to fifth a year ago, directly behind news/talk KDKA at No. 2.

Among music stations on the move, adult contemporary WSHH-FM is in fifth place, up from a seventh-place tie last year. WBZW-FM, which switched to a contemporary hits format last fall, is drawing a larger audience: It was in 13th place, compared to 18th in 2007. WLTJ-FM, which fine-tuned its adult contemporary format in March, remained in 12th place.

In morning drive, WDVE-FM edged out KDKA-AM for the No. 1 spot among total listeners.
