Foreclosures in region increase 66%

In the five-county region, 418 homes were lost to foreclosure in June 2008, which is 167 more than in June 2007, according to RealSTATs, a real estate information company.

The rise in home losses amounts to a 66.5 percent increase.

The bulk of the foreclosures occurred in Allegheny County, where 257 mortgages went into default, compared with 124 foreclosures in June 2007. Washington County had 57 foreclosed homes last month compared with 22 in June last year.

Butler County foreclosures were up by seven in June over last year, and Westmoreland had four more foreclosures. Beaver County was the only county with fewer foreclosures over the past year. There were three fewer foreclosures in Beaver County this June.
