Firecracker 100's restart is Tuesday
Friday, July 25, 2008

The rain-delayed Firecracker 100 for the World of Outlaws Dirt Late Models at Lerner-ville Speedway is scheduled for Tuesday. While the field for the $40,000-to-win 100 lap A-main is nearly set -- time trials and qualifying races were run before it started raining on the original June dates -- there are still opportunities for drivers looking to win the largest prize in Pennsylvania late model racing history.

Any driver who wasn't part of the Firecracker show in June can register for the chance at a fill-in spot in the C-main based on a random draw. While most of the big guns have secured spots in the field, not all have been locked in.

Scott Bloomquist is missing from the A-main lineup. Surprising to some, but the defending Firecracker 100 champion will have his work cut out for him in the B-main. Starting in the fifth spot of the second B-main, the Mooresville, Tenn., racer needs to finish in the top two to earn a spot in the Firecracker.

The drivers locked into the redraw for the first six starting spots in the Firecracker 100 are: Shane Clanton, Steve Francis, Earl Pearson Jr., Josh Richards, Darrell Lanigan and Brian Birkhofer. Local racers Mike Blouse and Greg Satterlee will start 14th and 15th, respectively, in the race.

The two B-mains and the C-main are loaded with local drivers. Drivers that don't transfer to the Firecracker 100 will compete in the Uncle Sam 30, which pays $3,000 to the winner. Fans holding tickets from the original dates will be honored Tuesday and will receive free pit passes for their loyalty, according to track manager Gary Risch Jr.

"The fans were great for sticking with us and we want to show our appreciation," he said.
