Thursday, July 24, 2008

Nate McLouth, Jason Bay and Xavier Nady homered and Yoslan Herrera pitched six scoreless innings tonight to help the Pirates beat San Diego, 9-1, in front of 17,916 at PNC Park.

McLouth drove in three runs, hoisting his RBI total to 70. Bay's home run was No. 139 of his career, which moved him past Bill Mazeroski and into eighth place on the Pirates' all-time list. Nady's home run, which followed Bay's by five pitches, extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

Herrera, who pitched poorly in his first two starts, allowed six hits and a walk to the National League's lowest scoring team. The win was the first of his major league career.

The Pirates' fourth straight win moved them to 48-54. After 102 games last season, they were 42-60.
