Jason Taylor has put his Hollywood offseason behind him now that he's a member of the Washington Redskins.
Taylor, a six-time Pro Bowl defensive end who played at Woodland Hills High School, clashed with the Miami Dolphins, the team he had been with for all of his 11 NFL seasons, as he participated in the television show "Dancing With the Stars" rather than working out with the team this offseason.
Taylor got a new start when he was traded to the Redskins Sunday for a second-round pick in 2009 and a sixth-round choice in '10. He flew in yesterday, took a physical and was officially introduced at a news conference last night.
"We have not talked about anything besides football," Taylor said of his discussions with the Redskins. "There's no dancing, unless we're celebrating a big play."
The trade for Taylor came after the Redskins lost starting defensive end Phillip Daniels with a season-ending left knee injury Sunday on the first day of training camp.
"You ever heard of this thing, Christmas in July?" Washington middle linebacker London Fletcher said. "I definitely thought it was Christmas in July for us to be able to add a player of his caliber to our football team. It just energized us."
Taylor, the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, had 11 sacks last season. Andre Carter, who will pair with Taylor on the other side of the Redskins' defensive line, led Washington with 10 1/2 sacks.
"Bringing in Jason Taylor is a blessing," Carter said.
Buccaneers
Reserve safety Donte Nicholson was tasered twice and arrested during a weekend scuffle with police officers at the entrance of a St. Petersburg, Fla., nightclub. Nicholson, a third-year pro who appeared in one game last season, was charged with misdemeanor battery and resisting arrest without violence. He was released after posting $300 bond.
Chargers
Tight end Antonio Gates tested his surgically repaired left big toe at training camp and said it's about 65 to 70 percent healed. Gates went through a 45-minute workout on a side field. He tested the toe by running and cutting. Gates was hurt in a wild-card playoff win against Tennessee and then played against Indianapolis and New England despite being in obvious pain. He had surgery in late February to repair what he said was a tear in the plantar plate.
Jets
New York placed disgruntled tight end Chris Baker on the active-physically unable to perform list, along with backup linebacker Jason Trusnik. Baker, angry that the Jets have refused to renegotiate his contract, missed a portion of minicamp a month ago after tweaking his back in practice. He reportedly was fined by the team for missing an injury treatment session.
