Victim of July 3 Bedford County crash dies
Friday, July 18, 2008

A Somerset County man faces a hearing next week on charges connected to a July 3 crash, an accident in which a second motorist has now died.

The deceased, Burt E. Reany, 64, of Chambersburg, Franklin County, died Tuesday in UPMC Bedford Memorial, state police said.

Mr. Reany had been driving west on Route 31 in Harrison, Bedford County, at 6:55 p.m. July 3 when a car driven eastbound by Jack J. Jarosz, 39, crossed into his path.

Mr. Jarosz tried to run away from the accident scene, but he was captured, police said.

He was being held in the Bedford County Jail on $150,000 bail, pending a preliminary hearing in Central Court next Wednesday.

He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death or serious bodily injury, failure to render assistance to the injured, abandoning a vehicle on the highway, and driving with a suspended license.

His driving privileges had been suspended because of a drunken driving conviction, court officials said.
