Wilkinsburg police are investigating a possible kidnapping after a woman brought a newborn baby that wasn't hers to Western Penn Hospital.
Andrea N. Curry, 38, of Wilkinsburg, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with a baby that had its umbilical cord still attached. Ms. Curry claimed she had just given birth.
Doctors examined Ms. Curry and determined that she did not have the baby, so they called police shortly before 1 p.m. City detectives turned the investigation over to Wilkinsburg police.
Ms. Curry has a history of baby theft. In 1990, she pled guilty to aggravated assault after stabbing a Wilkinsburg woman in an alleged plot to steal her infant.
One day after she stabbed the woman, Ms. Curry abducted a different 3-week-old baby from her room in Children's Hospital. A few hours later police found Ms. Curry at her home with the child, who was fine.
In 2004 and 2006, Ms. Curry pled guilty to retail theft charges.
