PPG Industries buys Illinois coatings company

Pittsburgh paint and chemical company PPG Industries has acquired a small Illinois coatings company for an undisclosed amount.

Vanex Inc., of Mount Vernon, Ill., is a private company that supplies water-based industrial coatings for use on metal, plastic and wood. The company has one manufacturing site and employs about 20 people.

PPG officials said the acquisition would complement its TrueFinish business, which provides liquid and powder coatings to manufacturers, custom coaters and distributors.

"What's more, this acquisition will enhance our ability to provide fast turnaround and leading-edge technologies to our customers," said William Wulfsohn, senior vice president of coatings, in a prepared statement.

PPG has more than 150 manufacturing facilities and equity affiliates and operates in more than 60 countries.
