Friday, July 11, 2008

Carmen Bruce, a former standout player at Duquesne University and a graduate student last year in the school's athletics marketing department, has been hired as an assistant coach on Suzie McConnell-Serio's women's basketball staff.

Bruce, who had 921 points and 290 assists at Duquesne in 2006 and 2007, started her collegiate career at Georgetown where she averaged 7.4 points in two seasons before transferring to Duquesne. She is the second all-time scorer in City League history with 2,175 points and led Schenley to an 84-30 record and three City championships. She was the Post-Gazette's Female High School Athlete of the Year in 2002.

Said Bruce, "I have a lot of respect and admiration for Suzie McConnell-Serio and what she has done for women's basketball in general, and now with what she has done at Duquesne."
