Pyramid Healthcare files suit against Swissvale

Pyramid Healthcare Inc. filed a federal discrimination suit Tuesday against the borough of Swissvale and its zoning hearing board.

The complaint in U.S. Western District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania alleges the borough and the zoning hearing board pointedly interpreted local ordinances in a manner that would find Pyramid's supportive housing program for recovering addicts in violation.

It also alleges that Altoona-based Pyramid and its residents' civil rights have been violated under the Fair Housing Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and both federal and state equal protection and due process laws.

Swissvale solicitor Robert McTiernan said the suit has not been served yet, but he is aware of its filing.
