When Blanche Warmus was 14, she left her hometown of Wadowice, Poland, to come to the United States. When she was 80, she went back to visit nieces and nephews. On Friday, she celebrated her Polish heritage and 100th birthday with 200 friends and family at Park View Social Hall in Sharpsburg.
She was born July 6, 1908, in Poland and came to the United States in 1922 with her father and a brother and sister. In 1926, she married Henry Warmus, a widower with five children. The couple settled in Oakland and had five more children: Laura Marshall of the North Side, Dorothy Luteran of Dormont, Ed Warmus of Bethel Park, Henry of Lawrenceville, Ray of Cranberry and Richard of Oakland. Four are deceased: Sophie Tonsetic, Helen and Theodore Warmus and Sister Vincentia Warmus.
Mrs. Warmus was president of the Polish Women's Alliance and has 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, some of whom were at her party Friday. Guests came from as far away as Georgia and Nebraska.
