Disputed number of endangered species in Pennsylvania (state Game Commission doesn't concur) including fish, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds and plants. An "endangered species" is in danger of extinction throughout all or most of its range. A "threatened" species is likely to become endangered in the near future. Number of animal species listed as "threatened" and "endangered" in the United States: 609.
