High-quality starts: If you were talking sports around the water cooler this day in 1963, the hot topic had to be one of the greatest pitching duels. As Nationalpastime.com reports, Hall of Famers Juan Marichal of the San Francisco Giants and Warren Spahn of the Milwaukee Braves each pitched 15 scoreless innings July 2 before Willie Mays' homer in the 16th gave the host Giants a 1-0 win. Ah, baseball before micro-managers like Tony La Russa, when pitchers built up arm strength and had fewer injuries ... oh, never mind.

Just fencing: The Brownsville (Texas) Herald reports Texas-Brownsville is suing to stop construction of a border fence across its campus because it would put the university's golf course in Mexico. We can't make these things up.
