Honey tasting
Thursday, July 03, 2008

Slow Food Pittsburgh and the Burgh Bees, a group of the city's urban beekeepers, have asked a panel of chefs and apiarists to taste and comment on local honeys at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Farmers@Firehouse farm market. The market is at 2216 Penn Ave. in the Strip District.

The pro panel includes chef and beekeeper-in-training Greg Alauzen, who is opening Cioppino, a new restaurant in the Cork Factory in late July; Barbara Ferguson, who uses local honey in desserts she makes as pastry chef for Mio in Aspinwall; Alanson Peet, executive chef at Casbah, also an advocate of local honey; and Christina Neumann and Jennifer Wood, beekeeper/educators for the Burgh Bees.

There will be lots of local honey for the public to try.
