Pirates' Capps on disabled list, out for eight weeks
Wednesday, July 02, 2008

CINCINNATI -- Pirate closer Matt Capps is on the disabled list because of a right shoulder problem and will be sidelined for eight weeks.

Capps, who blew saves here Monday and Tuesday nights, went to Pittsburgh today for tests, which revealed "internal range of motion detriment," according to manager John Russell.

Capps had five blown saves in three weeks dating to June 10 after successfully converting his first 15 chances this season.

Russell said today he'll close with whoever's "fresh" on a daily basis.

Capps will rejoin the Pirates in Milwaukee this weekend, then head to Bradenton, Fla., next week to begin rehabilitation.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
