Tuesday, July 01, 2008

A motorcyclist who suffered severe burns in 2004 when a truck ran over him near the entrance to the Armstrong Tunnels has died.

Mark F. McGreevy, 48, of Baldwin Borough, died on Friday, according to the John F. Slater Funeral Home in Brentwood.

The incident occurred on June 3, 2004, before scores of witnesses, when a 30,000-pound dump truck hit Mr. McGreevy from behind as he rode on his motorcycle on Forbes Avenue, Uptown.

The gas tank on McGreevy's motorcycle apparently ruptured and leaking gasoline ignited. Authorities at the scene said McGreevy's legs were on fire.

He was rescued by emergency workers and taken to Mercy Hospital.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
