For the first time since 2006, all eight seats are filled at the Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners. At the board's summer session last week, Ronald Weaner of Biglerville, Adams County, was seated as District 6 representative.
Weaner is a member of the National Rifle Association and Quality Deer Management Association. A hunter, dairy farmer and teacher of wildlife management, forestry and agriculture, he has a Penn State degree in agriculture education and has served on the Gettysburg school board. In 2002, Weaner was named York County Conservation Educator of the Year, and was recently appointed to the deer management Citizen Advisory Committee attached to Wildlife Management Unit 5A.
Weaner was nominated in May by Gov. Ed Rendell and unanimously confirmed by the state senate in June. District 6 includes Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Mifflin, Lebanon, Lancaster, Perry, Snyder and York counties. Game Commissioners hold office for terms of eight years, but may remain seated for an additional six months if no successor is named. Board members are unpaid, but may be reimbursed for travel expenses.
