Restaurant news

• Ronald A. DeLuca Jr., previously of Blue in McCandless, is now the executive chef at Pangea in Shadyside, where he is serving globally inspired cuisine. The restaurant has replaced Costa del Sol at 736 Bellefonte St. 412-621-3152, www.pangea-shadyside.com.

• Mia Cucina, a family-style Italian restaurant, has opened at 711 Penn Ave. just across from the Benedum Center. The grand opening is Friday. Executive chef Andrew Emberg was previously at Bossa Nova. 412-281-6290.

• Cafe Richard in the Strip District has become Cafe Raymond. Raymond Mikesell, a Pittsburgh native who worked at the BreadWorks on the North Side, has taken over the cafe, which is now open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Mikesell has introduced new breads baked on the premises and new soups, but he plans on making other changes slowly. 412-281-4670.

• Sawa, a new Japanese restaurant, has opened in the Monroeville Mall, featuring hibachi grills and a sushi bar. 412-372-8888.

• Green Mango is opening up a second location in Monroeville. The new restaurant opened its door June 20, and is located at 3462 William Penn Highway. 412-824-9500; www.thegreenmango.com.

Chef comings-and-goings

• Chef Chris Jackson has left Six Penn to pursue his dream of opening his own place in Brooklyn. Chef Keith Fuller, who has been with the restaurant since its opening in 2006, has taken over as executive chef. 412-566-7366, www.sixpennkitchen.com.

• Anthony Zallo, previously of Abrio, has taken over the kitchen of the Bigelow Grille at the Doubletree Inn Downtown. 412-281-5013; www.bigelowgrille.com. He replaced Kevin Sousa, who is now the executive chef of the Red Room in East Liberty. 412-281-5013; www.redroomcafe.net.

• Danielle Caine, previously the sous chef at Soba in Shadyside, is now the executive chef at Kaya in the Strip District; 412-261-6565. Kaya's former executive chef, Brandy Stewart, has taken over the kitchen at Soba; 412-362-5656; www.bigburrito.com.

• Dustin Kile, who joined the staff of the Gypsy Cafe as sous chef last fall, has taken over as head chef from chef/owner Jim Dietz. Kile debuted his new summer menu on Monday. 412-381-4977; www.gypsycafe.net.

• Chef Ryan Racicot, previously at Palate Bistro and Trilogy, has resurfaced as the executive chef at the Longue Vue Club in Verona. 412-793-2232; www.longuevueclub.net.
