A Derry Township man was killed Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Route 217.

Larry J. Anderson, 54, of Thorn Way, had been speeding on his motorcycle northbound when it veered off the roadway and into a yard in the 400 block of Route 217, state police said.

The motorcycle struck a tree and caught fire as Mr. Anderson, who had been wearing a helmet, was flung from his seat on impact.

Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner F. Christopher O'Leath pronounced him dead at the scene at 2:45 p.m.

The death has been ruled an accident.
