Stylebook: T-shirts proclaim allegiances to rock, charities
Monday, June 23, 2008
Rolling Stone T-shirts are available at Macy's.

Iconic covers from the archives of Rolling Stone magazine are decorating T-shirts at Macy's. The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix are among musical superstars whose covers are part of the collectors' edition shirts. Others featured are Metallica, Kid Rock, Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash, Ozzy Osbourne, Kurt Cobain, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg,

The Beastie Boys and Jerry Garcia.

The shirts were designed to appeal to "today's cross-channel lifestyles, bringing together the influences of fashion, music, celebrity and entertainment," said Jerry Balest, Macy's vice president of men's fashion.

They're $36 at select Macy's stores and at macys.com. Each comes with a certificate for a free, one-year subscription to Rolling Stone magazine.

Also in the increasingly crowded world of tees, fashion designer Luella Bartley has created four limited-edition bamboo-and-cotton styles to raise funds for four charities.

Each Robin tee sold funds a pair of sneakers for a student in Abricot, Haiti; each Pagan Sun tee sold helps protect a quarter-acre of endangered coral reef in the Pacific Ocean; each Stag tee sold provides a soccer ball to school children in Kenya; and each Scary Douglas tee sold provides a year of dental care for two children in Colombia.

The shirts are $45 each at tonicgen.com, with 30 percent of every sale going to a charity. Women's styles are white V-necks and men's are black crewnecks.

TONIC is a for-profit company that partners with secular and nonpolitical nonprofits to address issues related to the environment, education, poverty and social welfare.
