Latrobe's Alexa Bryson

Alexa BRYSON

Latrobe • Pitcher • Senior

For the second consecutive season, Bryson led Latrobe to the WPIAL Class AAAA title and the PIAA championship game -- and for the second consecutive year, she's earned the Post-Gazette softball player of the year honors for her extraordinary efforts. This season, Bryson, the Gatorade Pennsylvania player of the year and a Robert Morris recruit, posted a 20-3 record with a WPIAL-best 316 strikeouts. She tossed four no-hitters, including two in the playoffs, and also struck out a career-high 25 in a postseason win against Central York. A solid offensive threat, she hit .411 with a .452 on base percentage.

Trish MELVIN

Vincentian • Pitcher • Senior

A Brown University recruit, Melvin was dominant in leading the Royals to the WPIAL and PIAA Class A titles, as she went 23-2 with 300 strikeouts and posted a 0.58 ERA while tossing 15 shutouts. She threw four no-hitters and also hit .468 with 18 RBIs.

Katelyn YOHO

Ellwood City • Pitcher • Senior

Propelling Ellwood City to the WPIAL Class AAA title, Yoho had a 20-2 record with 209 strikeouts, 12 shutouts and a 0.49 ERA. She threw a one-hitter, a no-hitter and struck out 10 or more batters in 10 games this year. She also hit three home runs and drove in 20.

Jaci TIMKO

Chartiers-Houston • Shortstop/Pitcher • Senior

A Robert Morris recruit and four-year starter, led the Bucs to a 17-5 record. She hit .600, drove in 28 runs and scored 43, but perhaps most impressive were her power numbers. She belted 11 home runs and had an almost-unfathomable 1.214 slugging percentage. She hit 32 career home runs, among the best in WPIAL history.

Erin CLINE

Franklin Regional • Catcher • Senior

Bouncing back from a knee injury that forced her to miss her junior season, Cline performed masterfully, hitting .521 with a .649 on base percentage. She had 40 RBIs, hit six home runs and was widely considered the most technically sound defensive catcher in the area.

Ashley NICHOLS

Belle Vernon • Pitcher • Junior

Posting a 17-8 record with 208 strikeouts, Nichols threw three shutouts, including two in the PIAA playoffs. She also constructed a minuscule 1.35 ERA and walked just 38 batters in 170 1/3 innings of work. A threat on offense, she hit three home runs and drove in 16.

Megan DALEY

Shaler • Pitcher • Senior

A two-year starter who led the Titans to the WPIAL Class AAAA title game, Daley put together a 15-5 record this season. A Clarion recruit, she had a 1.80 ERA and struck out 130 batters for a Shaler team that ripped off nine consecutive wins through the heart of the season.

Geri WHITMAN

Beth-Center • Pitcher • Senior

She led the WPIAL in strikeouts during the regular season with 258, accumulating 20 of those in a 1-0, nine-inning victory against South Fayette. Whitman -- who had a 12-7 record -- threw four no-hitters, eight shutouts and yielded two or fewer runs in 16 games.

Kari FALK

Riverside • Pitcher • Junior

Propelled the Panthers to the WPIAL Class AA crown with a 19-2 record, a 0.30 ERA, 176 strikeouts, two no-hitters and six shutouts. A three-year starter, Falk also possesses a potent bat, hitting .410 with 33 RBIs and a .630 slugging percentage.

Sarah CAPP

Montour • Pitcher • Senior

The consummate team player, Capp is a catcher by trade, but pitched out of necessity for the Spartans this year, compiling an 18-8 record with a 0.44 ERA and 190 strikeouts. She hit .404 with a team-leading 17 RBIs. Capp will head to Robert Morris next season, where she has been recruited as a catcher.
