SPECIAL NOTES

Downtown alert! -- As part of Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary, two transportation-related activities will be taking place at the end of the week: the finish of the Tour of Pennsylvania cross-state bicycle race next Sunday and a special Saturday sailing event on the Three Rivers, both centered on Point State Park. Details will be in the daily PG. A number of Downtown streets will be closed, and many Port Authority buses will be detoured.

Meadowlands Casino -- As part of Racetrack Road widening and other improvements, Johnson Road and Meadowlands Boulevard will be closed beginning 6 a.m. June 30 for two months because of casino-related construction. Detours will be posted, but traffic may be slow moving at times.

Parnassus Triangle, New Kensington -- PennDOT will display plans to widen and rebuild Route 366 between Bridge and Seventh streets and related work. Public "open house" will be 5 to 7 p.m. at the New Kensington Municipal Building, 3012 11th St.

PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE

E-ZPass -- Turnpike officials will sign up drivers for the E-ZPass electronic tolling program 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow through Friday at Warrendale toll plaza on the east-west mainline, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Greensburg Bypass, just south of the Route 30 interchange.

INTERSTATES

I-70, Washington County -- Resurfacing westbound lanes, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, between the south and north junctions of I-79;

I-79, Allegheny County -- Traffic maintained in both directions on the northbound lanes over the 6.6-mile reconstruction zone between the Ohio River and I-279 Junction, Franklin Park. Use caution around the Bridgeville Interchange, where the far right lane on I-79 north is closed for work on a new acceleration ramp from Route 50;

I-70, Washington County -- Occasional stoppages of up to 15 minutes, 9 to 11 a.m. weekdays through July 3 around Race Track Road/Meadowlands Exit 41 to accommodate blasting next to the highway;

I-279 to North Hills -- HOV lanes closed for first phase of $11.3 million, eight-mile rehabilitation between East Ohio Street and Camp Horne Road interchange;

I-279/Parkway West -- Outbound ramp to Carnegie closed daily 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bridge repairs, but the "split" to Heidelberg remains open; and

I-376/Parkway East -- Rehabilitation work this weekend limiting outbound traffic to a single lane from Edgewood-Swissvale Interchange to Churchill. Restrictions are to be lifted no later than 5 a.m. tomorrow.

STATE HIGHWAYS

Business Route 22, Monroeville/Wilkins -- Mostly off-peak repair, resurfacing work all summer long through heart of the business district;

Route 22, Westmoreland County -- Separate widening projects east of Murrysville and east of New Alexandria mean lane closures, lane shifts and other disruptions for 2008 construction season; and

Route 28, Allegheny Valley -- Around-the-clock, single-lane traffic restrictions lifted from Route 910 northbound to Mills Mall between 3 and 7 p.m. weekdays. Southbound, no lane closures permitted between 5 and 9 a.m.

OTHER ROADS

Boulevard of the Allies, Oakland -- Closed outbound east of the Parkway East entrance for interchange reconstruction. Forbes Avenue down to a single lane into Oakland, causing morning delays;

Fifth Avenue, East Liberty -- Reduced to a single lane 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays at railroad underpass between McPherson Boulevard and Kelly Street, part of the $3.1 million project covering 1.2 miles of Fifth Avenue/Route 8 and Penn Avenue;

Hulton Road, Oakmont -- Single, alternating lane, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays starting tomorrow, from railroad crossing near Oakmont Avenue to 12th Street near Oakmont County Club. A PennDOT contractor will be resurfacing through early July;

Marshall Avenue, North Side -- Lane closures 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through late August for milling, paving and repairs between California Avenue and Brighton Road;

Nicholson Road, Ohio Township -- Single, 11-foot-wide lanes in both directions while PennDOT rehabilitates bridge crossing I-79;

Parkway Center, Green Tree -- Ramp from Parkway Center Drive to the Parkway West/I-279 inbound restricted to one lane 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily for expansion dam repairs. Also, the bridge carrying Greentree Road over the parkway has overnight and weekend restrictions for painting and various repairs through September; and

South Main Street, West End -- Block-long stretch that's also Route 60 closed for roadway relocation and building new bridge to Steuben Street. Posted detours use Alexander and Dumas streets.

MAJOR BRIDGES

Birmingham Bridge -- One lane maintained in both directions on the southbound side. PennDOT currently replacing rocker bearings on the northbound side; and

Fort Pitt Bridge -- Lane closures, sometimes at night, sometimes mornings, on select Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through July 26 while engineers do an in-depth inspection.

PORT AUTHORITY

"Connect '09" public meetings -- Meetings will be held tomorrow through Thursday in various areas of Allegheny County as the transit agency continues to seek public input on plans to restructure service starting late next year. The Downtown meeting will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the YWCA, 305 Wood St. More info at tdp.portauthority.org.
