Long-running cart brings art to you
Sunday, June 22, 2008

The Citiparks Roving Art Cart, celebrating its 35th season, kicked off last week with a season-opening event in Allegheny Commons Park, North Side, and continues Tuesdays through Fridays throughout the summer.

Joining in the celebration of Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary, the Roving Art Cart is hooking up with Robot 250, a citywide technology initiative.

The programs include visits from BigBots and Design-a-Bot, where children can build from "skeletons" created by the CREATE Lab at the CMU Robotics Institute. The next Art Cart/Robot 250 events scheduled are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Frick Park (Forbes and Braddock) and noon-6 p.m. Saturday at the Pennsylvania Bike Tour, SouthSide Works.

Citiparks estimates that the art cart will work with 18,000 children this summer.
