Five Point Breeze homes and gardens will be open June 29 for the sixth annual ORT America tour sponsored by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Organization for Rehabilitation through Training.
A converted barn once owned by Thomas Carnegie and a former lockmaster's house overlooking the Allegheny River are among the properties featured. Tickets are $50 for the tour and a noon lunch at the lockmaster's house, $25 for lunch only and $25 for the tour only. The tour immediately follows the lunch. For reservations, call 412-683-0207.
The Pittsburgh Rose Society will hold its spring rose show from 1:30 to 6 p.m. today at the Drew Mathieson Horticultural Center, Manchester. Tea roses, floribundas, miniatures and old garden roses will be on display. Parking and admission are free and rosarians will be available to answer questions.
Two lectures on 19th-century British gardens will be part of a free open house tomorrow and Monday at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation on the Carnegie Mellon University campus, 5000 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
"Native and Exotic Wonders: Displaying Nature in Public" by archivist Angela Todd and "Bringing New Plants to British Gardens" by librarian Charlotte Tancin will begin at 3:45 p.m. tomorrow and 3:15 p.m. Monday.
The open house will include tours of the facility and its spring exhibition, "Edward Donovan (1768--1837): Naturalist Artist, Author and Collector." The lectures will focus on Mr. Donovan's work and times. Open house registration opens at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow and 9:30 a.m. Monday.
