PG West: Area baseball players receive PSAC first-team honors

Center High School graduates Jim Eimiller and Sam DiMatteo were named to the first team of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division baseball team.

Eimiller, a senior catcher/designated hitter and three-year starter at Slippery Rock University, had a .303 average with eight doubles and 19 runs batted in for The Rock.

DiMatteo, a sophomore outfielder at California University, led the Vulcans in runs scored (42), triples (3), runs batted in (42) and stolen bases (18). He had a .347 batting average.

• Montour graduates Ryan Yost and Andrew Rafalski were voted to the second team of the PSAC Western Division All-Star Team for the second consecutive year. Both are attending California University. Yost, an outfielder, had a .344 average with 33 runs scored, 7 doubles, and 18 RBI. Rafalski, a right-handed pitcher, had a 5-3 record, and a 5.40 ERA.

• Blackhawk graduate Drew Aniceti was voted to the PSAC Western Division All-Star Team for the fourth consecutive year. Aniceti, a senior second baseman at California University who missed 17 games with a thumb injury, was voted to the second team. He was a first-team selection the past two years and a second-team choice as a freshman. Aniceti had a .365 average, 23 runs scored, 21 RBI and 16 stolen bases for the Vulcans.

PAC baseball

Sto-Rox High graduate Eric Boylan and Langley grad Eric Wadowsky were voted to the Presidents' Athletic Conference All-Star Team for baseball. Both are attending Thiel College.

Boylan, a junior outfielder, was a first-team PAC selection. He was also named to the Division III Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mideast Region squad and the D3baseball.com 2008 All-America team.

Boylan, who hit .418 in 43 starts, set a school single-season records in runs (55), doubles (25) and total bases (139), and tied a school mark with 63 RBI. He also started the season with a school-record 26-game hitting streak.

Wadowsky, a senior pitcher, was a second-team selection after being voted to the first team last year. He finished with a 5-2 record in 12 starts with three complete games and a 4.79 ERA. He concludes his career with a 21-11 record, which ranks second on Thiel's all-time list.

PSAC softball

West Allegheny graduate Deanna Valentino was voted to the first team of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division softball team for the second time.

A senior outfielder at California University, she is a three-time all-star, who was a first-team choice in 2005 and a second-team selection in 2007. She had a .299 average, 28 runs scored, 12 RBI and was successful on 10 of 10 stolen base attempts.

PAC softball

Rochester graduate Jackie Anthony received Presidents' Athletic Conference Softball Coaches Honors, the equivalent of All-Conference status for NCAA Division III provisional members. Anthony, a senior infielder/outfielder at Geneva College, had a .406 average, 32 runs scored and was successful on 28 of 31 stolen base attempts.
