Blasts tomorrow, Friday to halt Rt. 28 traffic
Tuesday, June 17, 2008

PennDOT announced today that blasting of a landslide-prone hillside along Route 28 in Harmar will halt traffic twice this week.

Blasting is set for tomorrow and Friday, at 10 a.m. both days.

Route 28 and the parallel Freeport Road will be closed in both directions around 9:55 a.m. The closings should only take about 20 minutes, but if Route 28 cleanup takes longer than expected, Freeport will be the detour.

Contractor crews will be conducting two blasts on the lowest shelf of rock along Route 28. Last Saturday's blast on the low shelf had minimal impact on traffic, PennDOT said. If both blasts this week are successful, blasting operations on the project will be complete.
