Friday, June 13, 2008

A letter carrier from New Salem, Fayette County, has been sentenced to a year of probation and six months of home confinement for delaying delivery of more than 18,000 pieces of mail.

Jeffrey C. Booker, 28, was sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh by Senior U.S. District Judge Maurice B. Cohill Jr.

According to information presented in court, Mr. Booker delayed or failed to deliver 18,396 pieces of standard mail, 17 pieces of first-class mail, 20 pieces of certified first-class mail and five parcels.

Judge Cohill said the sentence was sufficient because Mr. Booker cooperated with authorities, had an otherwise clean record and realized no financial gain from his offense.
